A realization and a re-do

I've decided to re-do my website--this website.

Actually, I've decided to repurpose a few things--like, my life.

My cousin, a rad dude named Schuyler, recently started a dope travel blog, which you can find here. This blog chronicles his and his girlfriend's trips and adventures throughout Southeast Asia.  I've been keeping up with his excursions and stories, and the whole thing got me thinking about my own life, my own travels, and my own desires.

As I sat at my desk, thinking about these things and pondering what I actually enjoy in life and what my passions are, I made a physical list of everything I wanted to do with my life.

  • Ski
  • Take pictures
  • Make videos
  • Hike/Camp/Backpack
  • Write
  • Tell stories
  • Travel
  • Adventure with my dog

These are the big activities (in no particular order) that I am passionate about. These are things I love. So, I made a mental Venn diagram with one circle being "things I'm passionate about" and the other being "things I do not spend enough time doing." Obviously, but unfortunately, the overlap was substantial.

I figured it was time to turn that around.

Being an American living in Germany, I find myself travelling a lot. Well now, I'm going to combine it all--all of my passions. Given that one of those is writing, I'm going to write about it all here, on this blog.

This site started out as a digital, online resume, something to tinker with in my spare time to set me up for my next job, my next turn down the ol' career path. But that's not what I want my life to be about--I've become too focused on the day-to-day, the monotony of office work.  I realized I need to break the despondency and malaise and really focus on the things I enjoy--the things I want to do with my time. This website should reflect that.

So, over the next few weeks, I'm going to tear this page apart and remove corporate wording and business-speak. I'm going to turn this into a site that reflects what I do, who I am, the milestones I strive to reach, and the passions that drive me.

This site is no longer about netting the next job, but about telling my story and the stories of the places I see and people I meet; it's about showcasing the world--our world--in it's beauty and splendor and highlighting the people that inhabit it.

My goal here is to not only chronicle my travels and escapades, but also to foster connection and discussion. I want to collaborate with those who are moving and doing and seeing and going. I want to work with artists all over Europe and make new friends, working on new projects and finding cool places. I want to build a network of the best kind.

This will obviously all take time, so bear with me and grant me some patience as I continue to tinker with this site and mold it into something interesting (hopefully).

In the meantime, if you're an artist of any kind, a skateboarder, a skier, a snowboarder, adventurer, or traveler of any kind and you want to work together, please hit me up and let's make it happen.

I've been considering making a website for a while, but never really got around to it.

I first began thinking about it way back during undergrad, when the professor for my Photoshop class said every artist should have one. It made sense, yet I spent years photographing and documenting and creating without having any sort of creative depository outside Tumblr or Facebook.

But as I progress into my career and art and seek to network with more people - more humans exploring and doing and adventuring - I figured I needed to have something a little more concrete, with full ownership. So, here it is.

Is this a vanity project? A little bit. But my hope is that this will serve as a sort of digital resume and cyber business card, allowing me to find and connect with those I'd like to collaborate with.

I hope you like my work, but even more so, I hope you'd like to work together. Please feel free to contact me! In the meantime, check out this gnarly video of Jordy Smith from O'Neil.
